When it comes to the everyday work of General staff, there are different roles and functions. As a result, here our focus will be on the Major activities of the planning section, but we will cover every aspect for better understanding. Let’s dive into the topic.
Different Roles and Functions:
A General Staff has four different kinds of roles and functions. Therefore, understanding these roles is crucial. These are as follows.

- Planning Section
- Logistic Section
- Administration or Finance Section
Before coming to the details, there is a fundamental difference between the Operation Section and the other three.
In the operation section, staff make tactical moves and direct responses to others, and they have objectives to achieve.
Subsequently, the rest of the section is more active and supports every response directed by the Operation sections.

Planning Section:
It is time to talk about some major activities of the planning section include, later we will talk about other sections too. If you have found this area interesting, then do not forget to check that out.
So, what are the major activities of the planning section?
1. Collecting
The first thing they need to do is to collect data and information. Hence, whether the incident is essential or not, they are responsible for collecting and recording all the data.
Sometimes operational managers or leaders need to command to do that. Moreover, it is their job to keep all on track.
Hence, less critical data will be valuable in the future.
2. Evaluating
Collecting is not the only responsibility. However, they need to analyze the information thoroughly and make a comparison after that.
This will help them understand the information, and they will have an idea of what to do with it. Subsequently, evaluating helps people memorize more and when and where to use that data.
3. Displaying
Okay, collection of data: Done, Evaluation: Done- now the time has come to display the information. As a result, they need to show the seniors all the collection and evaluation stats so they can sit and make new strategies.
When it comes to making plans, the more a staff collects and evaluates information, the more concrete the plan will be. Moreover, a good display is recommended.
4. Documentation
All of these above things are worth it when good documentation is done. Otherwise, there will be misunderstandings. Additionally, the lack of documentation costs an organization a lot at times. For example, suppose you have the responsibility to collect and evaluate data and haven’t done any documentation. However, two years later, the same data will be needed, and then the organization must put effort into the same thing.
5. Tracking
Many people already do this, but this point is still worth mentioning again and again. Documentation is necessary. However, if you have no track of your work, what is the end of making documents of those? Try to schedule a time to check your documented information. Therefore, keep a sound track of those whenever someone asks for any information so that you can show them quickly.
6. Maintain Documentation
However, this point is not necessary to be told. Still, I am still mentioning this because good employees are known for their organizational skills. Therefore, maintaining information is essential. You don’t know when and how a small piece of information will be required. However, if you are correctly maintaining documentation, information can be found easily. Moreover, this will save a lot of time and effort.
7. Developing Plans
If you ask me, what is the purpose of all these? Therefore, from collecting data to evaluating and maintaining good documentation.
So, you will need all these to develop plans. Suppose you have an idea in your mind, and now you want to execute that.
All the things mentioned earlier are necessary to create a strategy or plan. As a result, the more you can do all these, the more your plan will be solid and concrete.
